On Thursday 13th May 2010, Year 5/6 were fortunate enough to be able to visit Stratford upon Avon to have a drama workshop with the Royal Shakespeare Company at their Waterside Space studios. Before going into the drama workshop we took a walk around the town on a Shakespeare tourist trail. We walked down the riverside to the Royal Shakespeare Company's Theare, Swan Theatre and Court Yard Theatre. We then headed upwards into town and passed Nash House, the final home of William Shakespeare. We then headed right and made our way up past the Shakespeare gift shop to William Shakespeare's Birth place.
Some weird and wonderful events crossed our path throughout this mini tour. Upon leaving the bus we found our way to a park area next to the waterside. We took residence on a bench which surrounded a rather grand old tree. We then proceded to take out our packed lunches. This is when things went a bit wrong... In the distance we could see four rather menacing looking geese strolling towards us. Despite much shooing they came in to grab as much food as they could... and succeded! In Town we walked past a 'human statue' who as the tail end of our party crossed past decided that then would be the best time to jump down, causing the vast majority of the class to jump to an impressive height which many would be proud to achieve in any future sports days!
Our workshop lasted for two hours and took place at the Royal Shakespeare Company's Waterside Place. Our leader for the workshop was the very talented Alexia Healy, who has played roles in many Shakepsearean productions in Stratford upon Avon including the role as Lady Katherine in 'Henry V'. Our workshop was based on Macbeth to tie in with our study of the play in school.

We whirled through a variety of drama games and activites such as freeze-frames, grandmother's footsteps, yaw-boo and many more. All of the pupils were able to gain more insight into the play and the complexities of the characters, especially the principle characters, Macbeth and Lady Macbeth.
After an exhausting, but fantastic two hours it was time to make our way back to the bus and head back home.
